Narrative description of the project:  Women’s empowerment is recognized as crucial to development, leading to improved health and educational outcomes of household members.  In many Muslim countries, Islamic organizations are involved in various areas of development and are important agents of social change.  As many Islamic organizations have activities targeted towards women, a key issue is to understand how Islamic organizations affect women’s empowerment.The research aims to provide a better understanding of the role of Islamic women’s organisations in empowering women.  The findings should have important policy implications regarding how the state, international funding agencies, and Islamic organizations can work together to foster gender equality and women’s empowermentThe project aims to investigate how Islamic organisations contribute to the empowerment of women in Indonesia using quantitative approach.  The project centres on the collection of household survey data and the empirical analysis of the data.By designing the questionnaires the researchers will be able to collect data on economic and social behaviour that are directly relevant to the research question.  The researchers will employ rigorous microeconometric methods to empirically analyse the data to try and understand how Islamic organisations function and how they affect women’s empowerment.

 

Description of actual services provided by your staff within the assignment:Services and activities are :(1) Literature review and collection of background information using secondary sources of data (including books, journal articles

and official document

(2) Plan for data collection and questionnaire design (determining sampling procedures and survey locations): This project was interviwed a total of 1000 teacher spread over a random rural sample of 94 secondary madrasshas and 231 (non-religious) school.

(3) Data collection, input and basic data analysis

(4) Empirical analysis with microeconometric methods

(5) Dissemination of research findings and prepare academic papers as well as policy relevant documents based on the findings of the project

Narrative description of the project:  BPR has an important role in providing financial access to the Indonesian people, especially small businesses, medium and micro enterprises (SMEs). An important role has not been supported by policies and appropriate regulatory system because the principle of the regulation and supervision that is based on a one size fits all. While BPR has a diversity of conditions both in terms of deployment location, capital, assets or capabilities and capacity of human resources and technology. This prompted the need for research on the classification (stratification) of BPR that can be used as the basis of policy adjustment and monitoring system based on stratification BPR.The purpose of this study is:
1) Map the BPR industry based profiles / characteristics, risks, capacities and needs of the customers.
2) Assign categories and indicators to achieving stratification strata of BPR industry.
3) Conduct a review of the policy settings (institutional, operational and prudential BPR, as well as surveillance systems) corresponding strata BPR.
4) Provide recommendations BPR development strategies need to be implemented in each stratum BPR.

1) Preparation of a research proposal development, research design, questionnaire
2) The collection of primary data through in-depth interview in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Banten, Medan, Palembang, Padang, Semarang, Bandung, Surabaya, Denpasar, Makassar and Banjarmasin and secondary data form of industry performance data of BPR, BPR deployment location, operational areas, and lending of credit
3) Processing and Data Analysis using descriptive analysis, cluster analysis and the suspension method, principal component analysis, bi-plot method, Multi-nominal logit regression, finance and econometric modeling and model testing
4) Monitoring and Supervision
5) Preparation of Draft Final Report
