Narrative Description of Project:Comparative Study on Regulation and Supervision of Non-Bank Landers.The main research question is how to strengthen and improve capacity of Bureau Financing and Guarantee Bapepam-LK in implementation of regulation and supervision of the market participants in Indonesia?In particular, we further conduct comparative studies on regulation and supervision issues in the selected peer countries to draw implications for the development in Indonesia. Taking stock of the current regulation and supervision landscape is important to promote more understanding of different systems and instruments, providing a basis for more intensive and better learning.The special focus is also put on the differences of the Indonesian regulatory and supervisory practices compared to selected peer countries. Besides that, the gap of the lacking presence of the regulatory and supervisory practice of Indonesia compared to the selected peer countries will be discussed.  This will provide better advice the development of the Indonesian regulatory and supervisory framework.
Description of Actual Services Provided by Your Staff: The research aims to provide a better understanding and comprehensive insights on the regulation and supervision of non bank lenders from selected countries. To deal with these concerns, researchers will use template for covered issues, case study outline and regulation and supervisory checklist.Output of this study is enhanced empirical-based knowledge and key results on the regulation and supervision currently applied in Indonesia and in the selected case studies and potential improvement in the regulation and supervision.The analysis will cover 3 different aspects: 

(1) current condition of Indonesian non lender institutions: growth and development, related regulation and supervision;

(2) qualitative analysis of the selected case studies;

(3) Lesson learnedThe proposed study will be implemented from 26 September 2011 to 31 December 2011 and will consist of:

-Literature review and desk studies;

-Qualitative analysis to generate results and findings necessary to meet the objectives.

In order to achieve the study goals, we will adopt the following time plan:Stage One (Sep – Oct 2011) will be devoted for desk study, literature review and collection of background information. Researchers will collect background information using secondary sources of data (including books, journal articles, official documents,  and web site).Stage Two (Oct – Nov 2011): Conducting country study by collecting further information through visiting selected institutions, discussion and emails.Stage Three (Nov – Dec 2011): Conducting further qualitative analysis, preparing workshop and presentation materials on the key findings and recommendation
